Fratelli e sorelle, buonasera. Papa Francesco e la comunicazione - Carocci
In these first years of his pontificate we have learned to know Jorge Mario Bergoglio better and see his special relational abilities in action, discovering that the gift of knowing how to reach out to others, defeating distances, is the reason for which each and every one of his words and gestures is comprehensible and accessible to all.
With these premises of communicative action, Pope Francis has rapidly become one of the most beloved and listened to Popes, quoted as much by believers as by non-believers. Communication on the part of this Pope reaches everyone because, thanks to great awareness and elegance in the management of linguistic and cultural codes, he is able to get close to that impossible "zero degree" theorized by the semiologist Roland Barthes.
Therefore, we often witness Pope Bergoglio, with his relational abilities, abandoning  written texts and speaking extemporaneously, making use of parables, metaphors or anecdotes as a means of anchoring with daily life. Francis is a Pope who does not follow television and the media in general, even though he is able to dominate them with incredible ease. How does he do it? By means of which symbolic constructions does his form of communication pass? Analyzing various aspects of the "public representation" of Francis' pontificate - from his first appearance in the Loggia of  Saint Peter's to his apostolic travels, from the homilies to the encyclicals- Dario Edoardo Viganò in the book "Fratelli e sorelle, buonasera. Pope Francis and communication" ("Brothers and sisters, good evening. Pope Francis and communication", Carocci 2016) illustrates the paths by means of which Bergoglio's message reaches us.
